Three Tests You Shouldn't Deny After An Accident
Posted on: 20 December 2017
If you have been involved in any type of accident whether it be a car accident or a slip and fall accident, you should definitely follow up with your doctor right away, especially if the accident was not your fault. Even if you feel fine, this is important because if you decide to sue in the future for injuries, it's difficult to prove that your injuries are a result of the accident if you did not see your doctor right away.
When you do visit your doctor, chances are they are going to want to run a few tests. This is simply to check for any internal injuries that have not been brought to your attention, but could surface later. Here are three of those tests that you should definitely not deny and even insist on having done:
- X-Ray: An x-ray should be done, especially since fractures often aren't noticed until later or are simply chalked up to soreness after an accident that will go away. However, if that fracture is not treated, it becomes worse, which means more resulting medical problems and costs that will be difficult to tie to the accident. An x-ray will also be used to determine whether or not there is a broken bone. Chances are, broken bones are noticeable without an x-ray, but your doctor will need those ordered to treat the broken bone and to provide to you as evidence that the bone was, in fact broken.
- CT Scan: A CT scan is similar to an x-ray, however, it's more technologically advanced than x-rays since it provides doctors with a more three dimensional view of the bones. This is generally used to find more sources of potential trauma, such as internal bleeding or bruising that isn't noticed from the outside. This is important for treatment, as well as providing proof, once again, that trauma has occurred as a result of the accident.
- MRI: An MRI isn't always used since CT scans and x-rays can catch most possible issues. However, if you are complaining of a head or back injury, then an MRI will probably be used in order to see these areas more clearly. Since the head is sensitive, an MRI is used to safely scan it while an MRI is also able to provide more clear images of the complicated spine and back tissues so that an injury can more clearly be diagnosed, such as herniated discs.
If you have been involved in any kind of accident, it's important to both expect and insist on at least one of the tests mentioned above even if there doesn't seem to be a problem. This provides evidence that you were checked out and that a potential issue was in direct relation to the accident. Be sure that you hire a personal injury lawyer if this is the case who can collect these medical documents and use it to ensure that you are properly compensated for your case.
